Since the numbers on the nominations are way down from last year (my fault, for forgetting to post reminders), nominations will now be accepted until the end of the month.  That is Midnight, January 31st.

So, if you haven't already gotten yours in, please do so ASAP.  And help spread the word to the far-off corners of the fandom we've neglected to as of yet reach.

Thanks all for your patience with us as we figure this thing out!

I just wanted to remind everyone that nominations close on January 24th!!  Please try and get your ballots submitted as soon as possible, rather than waiting for the last minute, so there's less chance of someone being left out in a last minute scramble as we try to sift through everything.

We have recieved very, very few ballots - far short of last years numbers, so please nominate if you haven't already and remind everyone else to as well...it would really, really suck if we couldn't run the awards because of lack of participation!  Remember, you don't need to be a member of LJ, so get your friends on other sites involved - AO3, FF.net, whatever, it's all good.

I just wanted to clear up a small point of confusion. When you submit your nomination ballot, you MUST include your screen name AND the site it applies to, even if that site is LJ.

Thanks!

The time has finally come - you may now submit your nominations for the 2010 CMFFAs!

- To nominate fics, please fill out the nomination form provided below. PLEASE INCLUDE A LINK TO THE FIC IN YOUR NOMINATION! This is very important, as readers need to be able to read the fic before voting for it.

- Authors of nominated fics will be notified of their nomination shortly after it is received and their permission will be requested to include their fic(s) in the awards. Once the nomination period has ended and all fics have been verified, a voting list with links to each fic will be posted.

- An example nomination is as follows:

Screen Name: randomvoter10 Affiliated Site: www.fanfiction.net

Best Humour: "The One Where Morgan Tackles an Airplane and Hotch Takes the Team Out For Ice Cream" by casper0909 - http://www.fanfiction.net/s/49592354/1/Tackle

- The nomination period ends January 22, 2011 at 11:59 EST.

- Please EMAIL your nomination form to cmfanficawards@gmail.com (if emailing, you MUST include you screen name and what site it applies to e.g., ff.net, CM Fan Wiki, The Profilers, CMF Message Board CBS.com, etc).  Please do not PM your forms to me; while this was allowed in previous years, because there are four of us modding this year, to ensure that there is no nomination tampering, the forms need to be available to all of us mods at the email above.

- Please read the rules before submitting a nomination ballot! Remember - you do not have to submit a nomination for every category.

Some general reminders from last year:

- When nominating for 'Best Portrayal of a Main Character', or 'Best Portrayal of a Supporting Character', please remember to include which character you think it is best portraying. Also, remember that 'Main Character` and 'Supporting Character' refers to the characters's role in the T.V. show, not in the fic. For a list of which characters are considered 'Main Characters', please refer to the 'category descriptions' post.

- When nominating for 'Best Author Team-Up', please remember that you are nominating a specific fic written by two authors - not just the authors themselves. We need a specific example of their work together, so please include a fic and link in your nomination.

- When nominating for 'Best Series', remember that a series means two or more fics written as sequels to each other. Though you're only submitting the link to the first fic in the series, a single multichapter fic does not qualify as a series by itself - there must be other sequels/prequels in existence.

- Double-check the category descriptions before submitting. I really don't want to have to throw out nominations because they didn't fit the requirements.

If you are uncertain about whether a specific fic/type of fic qualifies, please contact me and I'll try and clear it up for you! I'd rather you run it by me than having to throw out a nomination that didn't meet the requirements.

Note: When nominating, it is easy to consider only the most recent fics you have read, but please make an effort to look for your favourites from the entire year. These are awards for all of 2010, and the best results will come from presenting the top fics from the entire year.

Do you have any questions that weren't answered in the FAQ? Leave a comment here or send it to cm.fanficawards@gmail.com and we'll answer it as best we can.

PS:   I sincerely apologize for the lack of reminders about this upcoming major event...  I was responsible for posting them, but I have been suffering through some issues lately, so my concentration/motivation/energy/memory has been almost non-existant...  But, because of this, I'm going to be a little more lenient about ballots submitted after the final deadline to compensate for those of you who don't see this right away.  Sorry again!

Seeing as we're new at this, we're going to be making a few changes that will hopefully make things run a little smoother.

First of all, the Best Romance and Best Smut/Sex Scene categories for Het, Slash, and Femslash will be divided into pairing sub-categories. Each person will be allowed to nominate two fics - of different pairings - in those categories and any pairing with three or more nominated fics will become an independent category, while anything with two or fewer will be conglomerated into a Best Rare-pair category.

Also, after analyzing data from the past years, it has been decided to eliminate self-voting. I realize people are attached to self-voting because, at the end of the day, it is a competition and people want to win, but it just makes things more fair...and besides, isn't it better to win because other people think you're the best?

As well, this year, the voting period is going to be extended to last a month because of issues with the sheer volume of fics to read.

If you have any questions, comments, etc, comment here or email us at cm.fanficawards@gmail.com and we'll do our best to respond as quickly as possible.  We want to know your opinions and we want to satisfy as many people as possible - but please remember that we're just doing what we think is best and we're new at this, so we're bound to hit a few bumps in the road.

We are considering adding a new award this year in which us mod's will, instead of voting, collaboratively pick our favorite in each category to win the 'Mod's Choice Award'.  It could be someone who already placed, but won't necessarily.  Another option is to, out of all the first place winners, we would pick one overall favorite.

Is this something you would like to see?  Thoughts?  Opinions?

Hola, everyone!  I'm one of the awesome people taking over this year's (and hopefully many future years') awards!  Since me and my partners in crime are all new at this, we're looking for some input.  If you've got a few spare minutes, please help us out and answer the following question.  We've set up an email especially for the awards, so you can reach us with your answers to the survey as well with any additional questions/complaints/suggestions/etc:  cm.fanficawards@gmail.com

1. Are there any other categories you'd like to see added for next year? Or were there any categories you felt were uneccessary/could've been combined?
2. Were the nomination/voting periods long enough for you?
3. How did you find the process of nominating/voting for fics? Do you have any suggestions for improvement?
4. Were there any issues you encountered with reading fics/voting for fics that you feel should have been addressed?
5. Overall, how would you describe your experience participating in the CMFFAs? (Difficult / time-consuming / confusing / fine / perfect / etc)
6. Any additional comments or suggestions?

And please check out the poll to offer your opinion on some very important issues.  If you have any additional suggestions or need some clarification on the offered choices, feel free to email us.

Thanks for all your help!  I sincerely look forward to running this year's awards and I hope we'll be able to fill the very large shoes left for us!

ETA (Mar 25): Thank you very much to everyone who offered to pitch in. I believe our 2010 team is set, however this post will still remain open for people to volunteer. If it turns out that additional help is needed further down the line, people who leave a comment below may be contacted by the mod team.

So, as I mentioned at the closing of the 2009 CMFFAs, I will no longer be running these awards due to RL constraints, which means I'm on the lookout for some replacements.

I've already had one person volunteer, but due to the size and time-consuming nature of this event, I'd prefer to have at least 2-3 more.

Please leave a comment here if you think you might be interested in helping out. Commenting does not mean that you have to be 100% committed right now. Rather, I'll pass along the contact information of the other volunteers for you to discuss matters further.

You can also use this post to ask questions before committing either way.

The 2010 competition is a bit of a ways' away, so this post will remain open all year for interested parties to inquire.

Comments to this post are currently screened.

Some people expressed an interest in seeing the final breakdown of the votes in each category. In the interests of protecting the anonymity of the voters, I can't simply open the results to be viewable to the public, but I've provided screenshots of the actual category votes in the post below. Rest assured, no voters' names are visible.

This final tally is provided purely for interests' sake. Some people may wish to remain ignorant of the total number of people who did or did not vote for their fic(s). If you feel that you may not react well to seeing the final tally, please resist the temptation to click on the link below. :)

Well, you've all been patient, and now it's finally time for the big reveal: the winners of the 2009 Criminal Minds Fan Fic Awards!!

A big thank you once again to everyone who participated, including those who pimped the awards on other communities and journals, and especially those who pushed themselves to get through the (extremely long) list of nominees! And another round of congratulations to the nominees themselves - even if you didn't happen to win this year, you're still terrific authors who provide a much appreciated service to the fandom. Keep doing what you're doing!

We had an amazing turnout - 163 voters in total (knocking last year's 60 out of the park!). I'm pleased to announce that there are also way fewer ties than last year.

This was my last year running the CMFFA's. Due to RL constraints, I won't be able to supervise this project anymore, but that doesn't mean that this is the end! A post will be made later this week asking for people interested in running the 2010 CMFFA's. It's a long ways away right now, but the post will remain open all year for people to inquire. Thank you to everyone for a great 2 years! I hope the competition has been as rewarding for you as it has been for me! :)

I'll post a breakdown of the votes in a separate post a bit later for those who are interested (I know not everyone wants to see that sort of thing). But for now, here are the winners you guys chose!

Congratulations to all of our winners! You're each terrifically deserving writers!

As always, if you spot any mistakes, please let me know. Feel free to leave any complaints/suggestions about your experience with the 2009 CMFFAs below, or send an email to ____. Any and all feedback will go towards making this a better competition next year.

Thanks again, everyone! :)
